The long and not so winding path….

Wednesday 12th March 2025

Having donated significantly to the mileage over the last few days, Mrs R took the rather wise decision to decline the offer of 16 miles today into rather uncharted coastal paths.

So I took the opportunity of a run / walk style, which actually ended up more walking as the path was very bumpy and I’d rather be cautious.  Although 16 miles in four hours is reasonable progress I’d suggest, considering that probably 10 – 15 minutes was wasted trying to work out which direction the alleged path took! Coastal path signs are rare in these parts at present.

Whilst the internet might suggest that the newly renamed “King Charles lll England Coastal Path” is complete, in reality there are quite a few sections that are at best in the planning stages.  Today was one of those days!

One of two or three signs in 16 miles

Can I mention how pleased I was to see this bridge having walked over a mile to reach it without being sure that it was a crossing point!

However in more positive news, whilst I didn’t see fellow walkers, there were quite a few hardy folks working the fields and flood defence systems, credit to them as it was chilly out there today with most of our English weather available in abundance… SUN, wind, rain, hail and sometimes all at the same time.

Interesting to see some of the industrial highlights from the last few days from the other side of the Humber Estuary.

A highlight of today’s walk included crossing the Greenwich meridian.

I looked it up on Wikipedia:- Greenwich meridian, an imaginary line, last established in 1851, that was used to indicate 0° longitude. It passes through Greenwich, a borough of London, and terminates at the North and South poles. Because it indicated 0° longitude, it was also known as the prime meridian.

So I do believe that the rather tall (and rather cold) fella in the selfie has a foot either side of east and west in this wonderful world of ours, who would have thought what’s on offer just outside Hull eh?

Anyways …. With our Humber Estuary walking nearly complete, there’s just a couple of small sections to cover off, we look forward to completing the Lincolnshire section with Ros and DJ over the weekend including Cleethorpes parkrun, why not indeed?  It’s then onto Yorkshire for next week including Scarborough and Bridlington.

PS If you liked this guest blog please tell Mrs R, if not then keep it to yourself eh?
